Synopsis

Ironmongery selection for doors has always been a challenge for architects. Hence, assistance from ironmongery suppliers for advice and proposals are always sought or parked as a provisional sum item whereby actual selection starts post contract award. The door designs and ironmongery selection ideally should be reviewed by Architects holistically at design stage to achieve the desired aesthetic, functional and security requirements. The speakers will share on the fundamentals of ironmongery selection and specifications, including how to conceptualize the master key control approach to your buildings and mechatronic application for various buildings’ control access. The topics will also cover applicable Fire Regulations on fire door and its ironmongery maintenance which are mandatory by law. The speaker will provide insights in latest FSSD certification regimes, standards, and maintenance requirements.

Topic #1: Overview of Ironmongery Types and Applications

Ironmongery constitutes probably the smallest fraction of the construction material, but has the biggest impact and consequence, in the finished building project.
From the fundamentals of ironmongery specifications and how it relates to the relevant standards and code of practice, we would like to explore together the various issues of ironmongery encountered during the preliminary concept, detailed design and actual construction stage.
In addition, we would like to frame the design of ironmongery applications, with the perspective of its relation to and pairing with door types.
The overall objectives of this webinar are to gain a general overview of ironmongery, the components involved; and ways to apply it, in order to achieve compliance to regulatory requirements and the design intent of the architects, designers and built environment practitioners.

Topic #2: Introduction to Master Key Control & Mechatronic System

The presentation on the Master Key Control hopes to give the attendees an understanding of a master key system plan. Through this understanding, you might be able to consider and plan the various master key systems for your buildings. You will also learn about the common master key terms used to descript in the master key plan.

The Mechatronic System seeks to give an overview of the various access control system and the medias used to manage doors in buildings. It will provide you with a better appreciation between a standalone electronic lock and an access control network system. The options of various mechatronic systems will help you to better consider the appropriate and suitable system to apply in your buildings.

Topic #3: Fire Doors and Ironmongery: Maintenance Matters!

Fire doors and its ironmongery make up a critical fire protection system that compartmentalizes a fire, minimizing damage to the building and buying critical time for occupants to escape. However, it can only perform its life saving function if kept in serviceable condition as designed by its manufacturers and tested by accredited laboratories. Without diligent maintenance, a fire door can easily slip into disrepair, especially if used in a location with high human traffic. This presentation will provide critical insights into the latest certification regimes and standards (SS332:2018 / EN1634 / Certificates of Conformance / Fire Labels) of fire doors in Singapore as well as the maintenance required by stakeholders to ensure they perform to specification throughout the lifetime of the building.
